Aghathiyaa First Review: After years of delays, the Tamil period horror thriller Aghathiyaa finally hit theaters on February 28, 2025. Written and directed by Pa. Vijay, the film stars Jiiva, Arjun Sarja, and Raashii Khanna, with a supporting cast including Edward Sonnenblick, Yogi Babu, VTV Ganesh, and more.

Produced by Ishari K. Ganesh under Vels Film International and co-produced by Aneesh Arjun Dev, Aghathiyaa features music by Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematography by Deepak Kumar Padhy, and editing by San Lokesh. The story follows Jiiva and Raashii Khanna's characters as they uncover a long-buried mystery in a haunted house.

Originally announced in 2020, the project was shelved before Vels Film International revived it in 2023. Now, after a four-year wait, Aghathiyaa has finally made its theatrical debut.

Film industry tracker Ramesh Bala has given Aghathiyaa a rating of 3.5/5, describing it as a good horror-comedy action fantasy thriller. According to him, the film is set in both the present day and the French-occupied past of Pondicherry and incorporates Siddha medicine into the narrative, which enhances the movie. He praises Jiiva's performance, highlights Arjun Sarja as a strong parallel lead, and commends Raashii Khanna's role. Bala also notes that the film's climax animation action sequence will be a visual treat for kids. He credits writer-director Pa. Vijay for blending multiple elements into an engaging fantasy entertainer.

Aghathiyaa Storyline

Struggling art director Aghathiyan, desperate to fund his mother's cancer treatment, discovers an old movie camera that transports him and his fiancée Veena to the 1940s. Unaware of the lurking dangers, they must unravel buried secrets while facing the wrath of a vengeful ghost-French Governor Dy, who once ruled Pondicherry.

Aghathiyaa features an ensemble cast led by Jiiva as Aghathiyan, a struggling art director, alongside Arjun Sarja as Siddharthan and Raashii Khanna as Veena, Aghathiyan's girlfriend (voice dubbed by Smruthi K). The film also stars Edward Sonnenblick, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, and Rohini as Aghathiyan's mother, and Charle as his father. Veteran actors Radha Ravi, VTV Ganesh, Azhagam Perumal, Matylda, Nizhalgal Ravi, and Indraja Shankar play key roles.

Aghathiyaa is produced by Ishari K. Ganesh and Aneesh Arjun Dev under Vels Film International and WAMINDIA, with Pa. Vijay serving as the writer and director. The film features music by Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematography by Dipak Kumar Padhy, and editing by San Lokesh. P. Shanmugam is the art director, while choreography is handled by Kalaimaamani Sridhar.
