Baashha Re-release Date: Rajinikanth’s Iconic Film Returns To Theatres With Remastered Version

Baashha Re-release: Baashha, the 1995 Tamil action film starring Rajinikanth in the lead role, is scheduled to return to cinemas in a remastered version on April 25, 2025, coinciding with the film's 30th anniversary.
Directed by Suresh Krissna, Baashha was originally released on January 12, 1995, and went on to become one of the most widely discussed films of Rajinikanth's career. The re-release will feature enhanced visuals in 4K resolution and updated sound through Dolby Atmos technology.
Baashha Storyline
The film revolves around Manikam, a mild-mannered auto driver in Madras, who lives a quiet life devoted to his family. Though he avoids conflict, his actions reveal a mysterious strength and past that surprise everyone around him. When local gangster Indiran threatens his loved ones, Manikam is forced to act, exposing a hidden identity tied to a violent past in Bombay. As threats from the underworld resurface, including a powerful enemy thought long gone, Manikam must confront his history to protect his present. This gripping action-drama explores loyalty, sacrifice, and the duality of a man who once ruled the shadows but chose peace.
Baashha Cast and Crew
Alongside Rajinikanth, the cast includes Nagma, Raghuvaran, Janagaraj, Shashi Kumar, Vijayakumar, Anandaraj, and others. Balakumaran penned the dialogues, while Deva composed the music and Vairamuthu wrote the lyrics. Cinematography was handled by P. S. Prakash and editing by Ganesh Kumar.
Produced under the Sathya Movies banner, the film completed principal photography in under five months. Upon its initial release, Baashha received favorable responses from the audience and reportedly had a theatrical run that lasted over a year in some locations. It also inspired a Kannada remake, Kotigobba, in 2001.
This is not the first time the film is being re-released. A digitally restored version was previously brought to theaters in March 2017. The upcoming re-release is expected to include further technical enhancements for contemporary screening standards.
Baashha is often cited in discussions of Tamil cinema from the 1990s and continues to be referenced in popular culture. Its return to the big screen comes at a time when digitally restored versions of older films are increasingly being brought back to theaters, aiming to capitalize on nostalgia and renewed audience interest.
