Coolie OTT Deal Buzz: As Rajinikanth's much-awaited action thriller Coolie gears up for its theatrical release on August 14, 2025, discussions about its digital streaming deal have already begun making the rounds. The Tamil-language film, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and backed by Sun Pictures, is among the most anticipated releases of the year and will reportedly be released in multiple formats, including IMAX, D-Box, and 4DX.

While the production team has yet to officially confirm any digital release details, a recent post by film industry tracker Sreedhar Pillai has sparked significant speculation. In his post on X (formerly Twitter), Sreedhar Pillai stated that Coolie is expected to follow an 8-week theatrical-to-OTT window and will premiere on Amazon Prime Video following this period. "#Coolie to have a grand North India theatrical release. The buzz is that they have signed an OTT deal with @PrimeVideoIN for a 8 Weeks (56 days) Theatrical to OTT window. Hence national multiplexes to roll out the red carpet," his post read.

If this window holds, Coolie could land on streaming platforms around early October, giving it enough time to build momentum in theaters first. This kind of deal reflects the recent trend in Indian cinema, where big-budget films are opting for longer theatrical runs before hitting OTT platforms, especially when they are helmed by star-led projects with pan-Indian appeal.

Rajinikanth-Led Action Film Gears Up for Theatrical Release

Starring Rajinikanth as Deva, the film boasts an ensemble cast that includes Nagarjuna, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, and Reba Monica John, among others. Cameos from Pooja Hegde (featured in the song "Monica") and Aamir Khan are also part of the film's appeal.

Coolie marks Rajinikanth's 171st film as a lead actor and has been in the public eye since its announcement in September 2023. Its teaser trailer, released on April 22, paid tribute to Rajinikanth's previous iconic coolie roles and featured a sample of "Vaa Vaa Pakkam Vaa" from Thanga Magan (1983), adding a nostalgic touch.

Meanwhile, the film's soundtrack, composed by Anirudh Ravichander, has played a significant role in building hype. The songs "Chikitu" and "Monica" have already gone viral, especially the latter, which sparked a social media dance trend following its release on July 11.

With just under a month to go before Coolie hits cinemas, the growing chatter about its OTT deal reflects both the anticipation around its box office prospects and the interest in its long-term viewing availability. However, for now, all eyes remain on its theatrical debut this Independence Day weekend.
