Coolie Trailer Release Date: The trailer of Coolie, the upcoming Tamil action thriller directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is set to release on August 2, just under two weeks before the film's scheduled global theatrical release on August 14, 2025. Lokesh Kanagaraj confirmed the date in a recent interview with film critic and journalist Anupama Chopra, putting an end to speculation that the film might forgo a trailer entirely.

Produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, Coolie marks Rajinikanth's 171st film as a lead actor. The project was initially announced in September 2023 with the working title Thalaivar 171 and later revealed its official title in April 2024 via a teaser video.

Filming for Coolie reportedly began in July 2024 in Chennai and continued across multiple cities, including Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Jaipur, and Bangkok. The production concluded in March 2025. The film's crew includes cinematographer Girish Gangadharan, editor Philomin Raj, and composer Anirudh Ravichander.

Lokesh Kanagaraj Speaks on Coolie's Promotion Plan

Speaking about his approach to promotional content, Lokesh Kanagaraj explained his decision to release only one trailer for the film. "I just want to deliver one trailer and a film," he said in the interview. "More than that would give away too much. I want audiences to come in, experience the film in full, and leave satisfied." His remarks suggest a deliberate effort to keep plot details under wraps ahead of the release.

The ensemble cast of Coolie includes Rajinikanth as Deva, Nagarjuna as Simon, Upendra as Kaleesha, Soubin Shahir as Dayal, Sathyaraj as Rajasekar, and Shruti Haasan as Preethi. Also part of the cast are Reba Monica John, Junior MGR, Monisha Blessy, Kaali Venkat, and Kanna Ravi. Pooja Hegde makes a special appearance in a song titled "Monica," while Aamir Khan will be seen in a cameo role as Dahaa Das.

Marketing efforts for the film have included the release of a first-look poster in March 2024, followed by a teaser in April that introduced the official title. The teaser featured references to Rajinikanth's earlier roles as a coolie in films such as Mullum Malarum (1978), Mannan (1992), and Uzhaippali (1993). A brief clip teasing the song "Chikitu Vibe" was released on Rajinikanth's birthday in December 2024, and another short video marking the 100-day countdown was shared in May 2025.

As the release date approaches, the upcoming trailer on August 2 will be the most substantial preview of Coolie yet. Given the minimal promotional material released so far, the trailer is expected to offer audiences their first extended glimpse into the film's tone and narrative direction.
