Gevi First Review: Sheela Rajkumar-Jacquline Lydia Film Called ‘Hard-Hitting' With Realistic Performances

Gevi First Review A Hard-Hitting Rural Thriller

Gevi First Review: With just a day to go before its theatrical release on July 18, 2025, the Tamil film Gevi has received its first public review from industry tracker Trendswood. The survival thriller, directed by Tamizh Dhayalan, features Sheela Rajkumar, Aadhavan, Jacquline Lydia, Jeeva Subramanian, and Charles Vinoth in lead roles.

According to a post by Trendswood, the film has been rated 3.75 out of 5 and is described as a "hard-hitting film based on a true story." The brief review notes that Gevi has an engaging screenplay and "realistic performances by all the actors." The background score, too, has been marked as a strong point. Trendswood added that the film may appeal to those who appreciated earlier rural dramas like Thaen and Merkku Thodarchi Malai.

Rural Thriller Explores Survival, Systemic Hurdles

Set in a remote village near Kodaikanal, Gevi revolves around the story of Mandharai and Malaiyan, two individuals entangled in a larger struggle for survival and justice. The narrative focuses on their experiences navigating systemic challenges and corruption. While the film deals with themes such as bureaucratic apathy and rural resilience, it is presented as a survival thriller with strong emotional currents.

In addition to the lead cast, the ensemble includes Gayathiri, Vivek Mohan, Umar Farook, Jagathraman, and Abimanyu Meena.

The film is backed by producers Manikannan, Perumal G, and Jagan Jaya Surya M and is co-produced by Varun Kumar, Umar Farook, and Jega Chirpian. Jagan also serves as the project's creative producer and director of photography. The music is composed by Balasubramaniam G, with background score contributions from Raja Ravivarma. The lyrics are penned by writers including Vairamuthu and Yugabharathi.

Gevi's technical team features editor Hari Kumaran, art director Arivu Mani, and sound designer Renganaath Ravee. Stunts have been choreographed by Don Ashok. The film's visual effects are handled by Focus Digital VFX, with Muthu Kumaran leading the VFX department.

The movie will hit theaters on July 18, and based on the early review, Gevi is expected to generate further attention among audiences drawn to grounded, issue-based storytelling.
