Jailer 2: Nandamuri Balakrishna On Board For Rajinikanth’s Action-Comedy Sequel With Nelson: Report

Jailer 2 Cameo: The much-anticipated sequel to Jailer (2023), directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, is steadily taking shape. Titled Jailer 2, the Tamil action comedy will once again feature Rajinikanth in the lead, with several key cast members from the original film returning, including Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, and Mirnaa Menon. Adding to the excitement, S. J. Suryah has joined the ensemble, and actor Shiva Rajkumar is confirmed to appear once again in a guest role.
Balakrishna Joins Rajinikanth's Jailer 2
In a recent development, reports confirm that Telugu actor Nandamuri Balakrishna has come on board for a special cameo. This comes after longstanding speculation, dating back to the release of Jailer, when rumors first surfaced about his potential inclusion. Although talks reportedly took place back then, they did not materialize. Now, according to a report by Gulte, Balakrishna has officially given the nod, and director Nelson has allegedly crafted a role specifically tailored for the actor.
The cameo is expected to be brief but impactful. While exact details of his character remain under wraps, industry insiders suggest that Balakrishna's sequence may align with the film's broader effort to appeal to audiences beyond Tamil Nadu, much like the cameos by Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, and Jackie Shroff in the first installment. Shivarajkumar himself recently commented on his return during a press meet for his Kannada film 45, stating that while his role in Jailer was minor, it received unexpected attention from viewers.
Jailer 2 is being produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner. The first shooting schedule began on April 12, 2025, following a pooja ceremony in March. As per reports, filming is currently underway for the movie. Music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, with cinematography by Vijay Kartik Kannan and editing by R. Nirmal.
The announcement teaser for the sequel was released on January 14, 2025, during the Pongal festival, and was screened in major theaters across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and parts of North India. With production in full swing, an official announcement regarding Balakrishna's cameo is expected to be made in the coming weeks.
