Jailer 2 Update: The much-awaited sequel to Jailer is officially in motion! Following the blockbuster success of the 2023 film, director Nelson confirmed that a sequel was in development. Reports suggested that Sun Pictures paid him ₹55 crore as an advance for the project, with scriptwriting beginning in January 2024 under the working title Hukum.

Titled Jailer 2, the film was officially announced on January 14, 2025, with a special announcement teaser featuring Superstar Rajinikanth, coinciding with Pongal celebrations. The latest update from film industry tracker AB George confirms that the grand project-backed by Rajinikanth, Sun Pictures, Nelson, and music composer Anirudh-is set to begin filming tomorrow. Additionally, actor Yogi Babu is expected to reprise his role in the highly awaited sequel.

Following the mixed reception of his last release, Vettaiyan, now streaming on Amazon Prime Video, Rajinikanth had primarily been focused on Coolie, the highly anticipated action thriller directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and produced by Sun Pictures. However, with reports confirming that Jailer 2 begins shooting tomorrow, fans can also look forward to exciting updates on Coolie, including new glimpses and possibly an official release date in the coming days.

Released on August 10, 2023, Jailer became a massive critical and commercial success. Produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, the film was made on a budget of ₹200-220 crore and went on to gross an impressive ₹605-650 crore worldwide.
