Jana Nayagan And Coolie OTT Deal: Record-Breaking Digital Rights Sale Reported For Vijay And Rajinikanth Films

Jana Nayagan and Coolie OTT Deal: There has been growing online speculation regarding the OTT rights of two of Tamil cinema's most anticipated films, Jana Nayagan, starring Vijay, and Coolie, headlined by Rajinikanth. A post by the X handle 'Movies Singapore,' known for tracking South Indian film industry trends, claims that both films have allegedly fetched ₹125 crore each for their digital rights, a figure that, if confirmed, would mark the highest-ever OTT deal for a Tamil-language movie.
While there has been no official confirmation from the production houses, Sun Pictures for Coolie and KVN Productions for Jana Nayagan, or from the streaming platform in question, the post suggests that Amazon Prime Video has acquired the digital streaming rights to both films. The claimed ₹125 crore figure is reportedly based on the massive fan following and enduring stardom of lead actors Rajinikanth and Vijay.
Anticipation Builds for Rajinikanth and Vijay Films
Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and produced by Sun Pictures, is an action thriller slated for theatrical release on August 14, 2025. Rajinikanth leads the ensemble, which also comprises Nagarjuna, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Reba Monica John, and others. The production began in July 2024 and concluded in March 2025, with major portions shot across Chennai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Visakhapatnam, and Bangkok.
Meanwhile, Jana Nayagan, directed by H. Vinoth, is positioned as Vijay's final film before his anticipated entry into politics. The political action drama, produced by KVN Productions, wrapped filming in June 2025 and is scheduled for a theatrical release on January 9, 2026. Alongside Vijay, the cast includes Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, and Priyamani.
Both films have music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, a common factor that has added to the excitement surrounding the projects.
No official confirmation has been issued by the production houses or streaming platform about the reported ₹125 crore figure at the time of publishing.
Given the scale of both productions and the marketability of their lead stars, a high-value digital rights deal would not be unprecedented. However, until formal announcements are made, the figures should be considered speculative.
