Kaantha Box Office Collection Day 4: Dulquer Salmaan's Period Drama Film Crosses ₹15 Crore In India

Kaantha Box Office Collection: Dulquer Salmaan's latest Tamil release, Kaantha, has completed four days in theaters, closing its first Monday with a noticeable decline in earnings after a moderately steady opening weekend. The period mystery drama, directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, hit screens worldwide on November 14, 2025, and has so far recorded an estimated India net collection of ₹15.24 crore, according to box office tracking platform Sacnilk.
Box Office Performance So Far
Kaantha opened on Friday with ₹4.35 crore across Tamil and Telugu versions. The film saw a rise on Saturday, collecting ₹5 crore, reflecting typical weekend growth. Sunday's earnings dipped slightly to ₹4.5 crore, but the film maintained reasonable momentum.
The sharp correction came on Monday, its first weekday, when collections reportedly fell to ₹1.39 crore, marking a decline of more than 69 percent from its Sunday figures. While such drops are not uncommon for non-holiday releases, the weekday trend will be key in determining the film's long-term theatrical trajectory.

About the Film
Set against the backdrop of 1950s Madras, Kaantha follows the story of Ayya, an established filmmaker, and his turbulent relationship with actor T. K. Mahadevan. Ayya was responsible for shaping Mahadevan's early career, but the bond between them deteriorates when Mahadevan interferes in the creative decisions of Ayya's film, shifting its thematic emphasis and sparking creative tensions on set.
An unexpected murder shakes the crew midway through production, bringing Inspector Devaraj into the picture. As he investigates, the long and complicated history between Ayya and Mahadevan becomes central to understanding what happened and why. The narrative blends elements of period drama, industry politics, and crime investigation.
Cast, Crew, and Production
The film features Dulquer Salmaan, Samuthirakani, Bhagyashri Borse, and Rana Daggubati in principal roles. Directed and co-written by Selvamani Selvaraj, Kaantha is jointly produced by Rana Daggubati and Dulquer Salmaan under Spirit Media and Wayfarer Films. The technical team includes cinematographer Dani Sanchez Lopez, editor Llewellyn Anthony Gonsalvez, and music composer Jhanu Chanthar. The art department is headed by Ramalingam, while VFX is handled by Deccan Dreams.
Although early speculation suggested that Kaantha drew inspiration from the life of M. K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, the makers have clarified that the film is entirely fictional.
As the film enters Day 5 today, the weekday trend will determine whether Kaantha can stabilize after Monday's dip. Its performance over the next few days will also hint at how strongly it may hold before the next wave of releases arrives.
