The announcement, made by Dulquer Salmaan via social media, comes ahead of his 42nd birthday, adding a personal milestone to the film's promotional timeline.

"The road to release begins with the first tease at 3PM tomorrow," wrote the actor in a post on X (formerly Twitter), confirming the teaser release date and time. The film is jointly produced by Spirit Media and Wayfarer Films, the latter being Dulquer's own production banner.

Kaantha: Biopic on Tamil cinema icon

Directed and written by Selvamani Selvaraj, Kaantha is set in 1950s Madras and features a cast that includes Samuthirakani and Bhagyashri Borse alongside Dulquer. Selvamani Selvaraj, who previously directed the Netflix docuseries The Hunt for Veerappan, returns with what is being positioned as an ambitious period piece.

As reported by Times Now, Kaantha is based on the life of M.K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, considered the first superstar of Tamil cinema. Dulquer Salmaan is set to portray the legendary singer-actor, with the film capturing the highs and lows of Bhagavathar's extraordinary journey in the spotlight.

The teaser, which reportedly has completed censor formalities, has a runtime of 2 minutes and 14 seconds. It is expected to offer the first substantial glimpse into the visual and narrative world of the film. The teaser is expected to introduce audiences to the cultural landscape of mid-20th century Tamil Nadu and the dramatic arc of a man who once defined stardom in Indian cinema.

Produced by Rana Daggubati, Dulquer Salmaan, Prashanth Potluri, and Jom Varghese, Kaantha brings together a large creative team, including cinematographer Dani Sanchez Lopez, editor Lewellyn Anthony Gonsalves, and several prominent technicians across sound, costume, and design departments.

While an official release date is yet to be confirmed by the makers, industry sources suggest that Kaantha is currently slated for a September 12, 2025, release.
