Kaantha Worldwide Box Office 2-Day Collection: Dulquer Salmaan's Period Drama Film Nears ₹16 Crore

Kaantha Worldwide Box Office Collection: Kaantha, the Tamil period mystery drama directed by Selvamani Selvaraj and starring Dulquer Salmaan, completed its second day in theaters on 15 November 2025. According to industry tracker AB George, Kaantha collected approximately ₹1.05 crore in Kerala on its second day, bringing the two-day Kerala total to ₹2.15 crore. Worldwide, the film's Day 2 performance was almost the same as Day 1, with the two-day global gross reported to be around ₹16 crore.
Released on 14 November 2025, Kaantha was co-produced by Dulquer Salmaan and Rana Daggubati under the banners of Wayfarer Films and Spirit Media. Other producers involved include Prashanth Potluri and Jom Varghese. The film's release attracted attention for its period setting and the storyline, set in 1950s Madras. Early speculation suggested the film might be inspired by the life of Tamil cinema star M. K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar; however, the makers clarified that the narrative is entirely fictional.
Kaantha Storyline Cast and Technical Crew
The plot revolves around Ayya, a veteran filmmaker, and his fraught relationship with T. K. Mahadevan, an actor whose career Ayya once nurtured. The conflict intensifies when Mahadevan alters the title of Ayya's women-centric project from Shaantha to Kaantha, shifting the film's focus to suit his own image. This creative disagreement is further complicated by a murder that occurs during production, prompting Inspector Devaraj to take charge of the investigation. As the inquiry progresses, Ayya and Mahadevan's shared history becomes central to unraveling the events surrounding the crime.
Alongside Dulquer Salmaan, the film features Samuthirakani, Bhagyashri Borse, and Rana Daggubati in significant roles. The technical team includes Dani Sanchez Lopez as cinematographer, Llewellyn Anthony Gonsalvez handling editing, and Jhanu Chanthar composing the music. Ramalingam served as art director, while Glen Denis Castinho worked as DI colourist. Additional crew includes Allwin Rego and Sanjay Maurya on sound design, with Deccan Dreams providing VFX support.
Following the second day's steady performance, Kaantha's opening weekend will be crucial in determining its overall box office trajectory. The early collections indicate consistent interest in the period thriller.
With Day 3 underway, the film enters a critical phase where weekend attendance and overall reception will provide clearer insights into how strongly Kaantha will perform across different regions in India and internationally.
