Kamal Haasan Hits Back At Backlash: Actor and politician Kamal Haasan has responded to the controversy that occurred after he stated that the Kannada language originated from Tamil. Addressing the crowd and Kannada actor Shivarajkumar, Kamal Haasan said at a film event in Chennai, "Your language (Kannada) was born out of Tamil." Responding to his recent comments on the origin of the Kannada language, Kamal Haasan said to News18, "My statement was misinterpreted." He further claimed that what he said at the event was "out of love." Where many were left wondering whether Kamal Haasan would apologize for his remark, the actor clarified that he would not come up with an apology. Kamal said, "I will not apologise for something I said out of love (sic)." He further went on to subtly defend himself by saying that "Politicians are not qualified on talking about language matters, and that includes me." Will hardcore Kannada speakers, who were offended by Kamal Haasan, forgive the actor?
Earlier, when Kamal Haasan made comments on Kannada language originating from Tamil, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also took time to comment on it. He said to ANI, "Kannada has a long-standing history. Poor Kamal Haasan, he is unaware of it."
Kamal Haasan was in Chennai for the promotion of his upcoming film 'Thug Life.' Thug Life stars Kamal, Silambarasan, Trisha Krishnan, Abhirami, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Ashok Selvan in key roles. The movie is set to release in theaters on June 5, 2025.
