Maaman Tamil Nadu Box Office Collection: Soori's Movie Sees Moderate Start On Its Opening Day

Maaman Tamil Nadu Box Office Collection: Soori's latest outing Maaman, which hit theatres across Tamil Nadu on May 16, opened to a modest start at the box office. According to early estimates released by tracking service Cinetrak, the film grossed approximately ₹1.9 crore across the state on its opening day, including ₹1.55 crore from tracked cinema chains by the end of Friday.
Directed by Prasanth Pandiyaraj and backed by Lark Studios, Maaman is positioned as a character-driven action drama that explores familial tensions. The story revolves around the strained relationship between a maternal uncle and his nephew, addressing emotional baggage and generational rifts. The narrative is structured around interpersonal conflict rather than over-the-top action, focusing on the complexities within the family dynamic.
Maaman Opens Alongside Stiff Box Office Competition
The film reunites producer K. Kumar with Soori, following their 2024 collaboration Garudan. In Maaman, Soori takes on a lead role that veers away from his comedic roots, continuing his gradual shift toward serious and performance-heavy parts. He is joined by Aishwarya Lekshmi in a central role, with a supporting cast that includes Rajkiran, Swasika, Baba Bhaskar, and Bala Saravanan, among others.
While the film received favourable early reviews, particularly for its performances and emotional core, its box office opening was somewhat overshadowed by the simultaneous release of Devil's Double Next Level, a horror-comedy headlined by Santhanam. That film grossed an estimated ₹3.1 crore in Tamil Nadu on its first day, nearly doubling Maaman's opening numbers.
Maaman's below-par start doesn't necessarily predict its long-term performance, as its genre and narrative style may rely more on word-of-mouth than initial hype. With positive reception among early viewers and a slower, content-driven pacing, its performance in the coming days will be closely watched, particularly over the weekend.
The film's technical crew includes Dinesh Purushothaman on cinematography, Hesham Abdul Wahab as music composer, and Ganesh Siva on editing. Whether Maaman can gain momentum at the box office and find its footing amidst competition will become clearer over the next few days.
