National Film Awards 2025: The 71st National Film Awards, honouring the finest works in Indian cinema from the year 2023, were officially announced on August 1, 2025. After a comprehensive evaluation process, the jury submitted its final report to Union Information & Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State L. Murugan at 4 PM. The names of the winners were revealed later in the evening at a press conference held at 6 PM at the National Media Centre in New Delhi.
This year's awards were based on entries submitted by filmmakers from across the country, with the deadline for submissions ending on September 18, 2024. As with previous editions, the awards cover a wide range of categories, including feature films, non-feature films, and writing on cinema.
Tamil cinema continues to have a notable presence among the winners, reflecting its consistent contribution to Indian cinema. While the full list of winners spans multiple languages and categories, several Tamil films and artists have secured key recognitions.

The awards ceremony is expected to take place in the coming weeks in New Delhi, where the winners will be felicitated.
In the previous edition, the 70th National Film Awards, announced on August 16, 2024, actor Nithya Menen won the Best Actress award for her performance in the Tamil film Thiruchitrambalam. That honour was shared with Manasi Parekh for her role in the Gujarati film Kutch Express. Meanwhile, Kantara (Kannada) received multiple awards including Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and Best Actor for Rishab Shetty. The Best Feature Film award that year went to Aattam, a Malayalam-language film directed by Anand Ekarshi.
