Three Indian Films Are Eligible 'Best Picture' Nominees At Oscars 2025: The big win for the 'Best Original Song' at the prestigious Academy Awards for 'Naatu Naatu' in SS Rajamouli's 'RRR' movie opened many doors for Indian cinema at the global platform like never before. The filmmakers from India who are investing hundreds of crores in making big-budget and star-studded films are often becoming successful by promoting them worldwide, reaping benefits.

The year 2024 was quite a phenomenon in the Indian film industry, especially across the South. With stellar films hitting the screens of record-breaking box office figures, the addition of feel-good and realistic films winning immense love from audiences is a welcoming change. A handful of blockbuster films were produced and released in Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada this year and the pan-India craze reached a peak. The official nominations for the Oscars 2025 for the 'Best Picture' eligible category are:

Kanguva

Starring Suriya in his another period avatar after '7aum Arivu,' director Siruthai Siva attempted a larger-than-life film to tell the tale of a warrior named Kanguva, who lived before 10,000 BC. The contrast between the past and future, coupled with loose narration and weak conflict points made the actor's costliest film to date, a box office disaster. The movie features Disha Patani and Yogi Babu among others.

Aadujeevitham

Actor-filmmaker Prithviraj Sukumaran's brilliant work to date is the movie 'Aadujeevitham' AKA The GOAT Life. Based on the life of a migrant worker named Najeeb, who escaped a hell-hole in the Gulf to become a subject of interest, Prithviraj Sukumaran dared and braved all to become the character of this survival drama directed by Blessy. The movie was a box office success and did commercially well.

Girls Will Be Girls

The coming-of-age drama written and directed by Shuchi Talati is titled 'Girls Will Be Girls.' The movie premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2024 before getting a worldwide digital release in December 2024. The movie earned critical reviews and appreciation as soon as it hit the OTT platform.
