Retro Advance Bookings: The much-anticipated Tamil film Retro, starring Suriya and Pooja Hegde, has officially opened its advance bookings ahead of its May 1, 2025 theatrical release. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the film is a romantic action entertainer produced by Stone Bench Creations in collaboration with 2D Entertainment.
Announced in March 2024 under the working title Suriya 44, the film carried the tagline "Love, Laughter, War" before being officially titled Retro in December last year. Filming began in June 2024 and concluded by early October, with major portions shot across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Ooty, Kerala, and Chennai.
According to the latest reports, the initial response to advance ticket sales has been promising. Box office tracker Karnataka Talkies has reported that more than 2,000 tickets have already been sold in Bengaluru alone, across 63 shows, even before the prime weekend slots opened for booking. Meanwhile, another industry tracker, AB George, shared that Retro has managed to earn approximately ₹1.33 crore in Tamil Nadu and over ₹15 lakh in Kerala through advance bookings within just a few hours. As per sources, more screens are expected to open for reservations across key locations in the coming days.

Retro features Suriya in the role of Paarivel "Paari" Kannan, with Pooja Hegde playing Rukmini "Rukku." The cast also includes notable names such as Jayaram, Joju George, Karunakaran, Nassar, and Prakash Raj. Additionally, Baby Aavni appears as young Rukmini, while Shriya Saran makes a cameo in the song "Love Detox."
The technical team behind Retro features several frequent collaborators of director Karthik Subbaraj. The art direction is handled by Jacki and Mayapandi, while the stunt sequences are choreographed by Kecha Khamphakdee.
The film is set to release in both standard and EPIQ formats, promising a wider viewing experience across different types of screens. With advance bookings now officially open, the early numbers suggest that Retro could witness a strong opening at the box office during its upcoming May Day holiday release.
