Superstar Rajinikanth For Suriya's Retro: Suriya, who tasted the biggest industry disaster with Siva's 'Kanguva' is going to hit the screens with a fresh characterization and a typical 70s retro makeover for Karthik Subbaraj's romantic actioner titled 'Retro.' With a tagline of 'Love, Laughter, and War,' the movie made on a budget of Rs 65 Crore jointly by Suriya's 2D Entertainment and Karthik Subbaraj's Stone Bench Creations, is going to hit the big screens amid sky-high expectations on May 1 worldwide. For this movie, Suriya sported an exciting look that gels with the period backdrop of the story.
Retro Audio Release
Ahead of the movie's hyped theatrical debut, the makers have arranged for a grand pre-release event where the film's audio will be released. Composed by Santhosh Narayanan, who is fondly referred to as SaNa, the romantic action-thriller's full album will be out on April 18.
It is also believed that Karthik Subbaraj had personally requested superstar Rajinikanth to grace the audio release event for Suriya's film. The audio release event at Nehru Indoor Stadium will also mark the film's theatrical trailer release, much to the excitement of the fans. The social media platforms are filled with numerous posts about Suriya and Retro as the cast, crew, and fans are sharing unlimited updates about the event that will begin at 5 PM. Retro: Production, Cast, & Crew
The movie was shot from June 2024 to October where the unit wrapped up the filming. With filming locations panning Andaman & Nicobar, Ooty, Kerala, and Chennai, Retro movie stars several notable actors. Suriya plays Paarivel Kannan while Pooja Hegde plays Rukmini Paarivel, his love interest and wife.
In addition, Joju George as Paarivel's father, Jayaram, Karunakaran, Nassar, Prakash Raj, Sujith Shankar, Singampuli, Krishnakumar Balasubramanian, Prem Kumar, Ramachandran Durairaj, Uday Mahesh, Avinash Raghudevan, Tarak Ponnappa, Vidhu, Tamizh, Sandeep Raj, Nandita Das, Remya Suresh, George Maryan, and MD Asif played pivotal roles. Shriya Saran shook her leg with Suriya for a special item song while SaNa was also featured in the song 'Kanimaa' in a cameo.
Shreyaas Krishna cranked the camera and Shafique Mohamed Ali worked as the film's editor.
