Suriya s Retro Box Office Collection Day 2 Prediction

With a mix of romance, action, and drama, the Tamil-language film was released in both standard and EPIQ formats across India and overseas.

On its opening day, Retro registered a strong start at the domestic box office, collecting ₹19.25 crore (India net), according to figures reported by Sacnilk. As per Sacnilk, the Indian box office tracker, Retro earned an estimated ₹19.25 crore India net on its first day at the box office.

Day 1 [1st Thursday]: ₹19.25 crore (rough data)
Day 2 [1st Friday]: ₹ 0.02 crore (based on live data reported by Sacnilk and is subject to updates)
Total Collection So Far: ₹19.27 crore

In terms of regional performance, Tamil Nadu has been the strongest market for the film, given Suriya's core fan base in the state. Box office tracker Cinetrak has reported encouraging signs for Retro's Day 2, particularly through advance bookings. As of 10 PM on 1 May, the film had grossed ₹2.98 crore from 1,787 tracked shows in Tamil Nadu for today's advance sales. This number slightly edges out the advance booking performance of Suriya's previous film Kanguva, which recorded ₹2.83 crore from 1,742 shows at a similar tracking point.

The steady advance numbers suggest the film is likely to maintain decent momentum into the weekend. However, the full-day occupancy and walk-in traffic will be crucial in determining whether Retro can sustain or improve upon its opening day numbers.

Set across various decades and regions, Retro unfolds the life of Paari, a man raised by a gangster in Thoothukudi during the 1960s. His path takes a sharp turn when he falls in love with Rukmini, a veterinarian, and attempts to break free from a life of violence. The story later shifts to the Andaman Islands, where Paari, under a new identity, finds himself confronting local tyranny while seeking a personal reckoning.

The film has been noted for its large ensemble cast. Suriya leads the story as Paari, while Pooja Hegde plays Rukmini. Supporting roles include Joju George as Thilagan, Jayaram as Chaplin Laali, and Prakash Raj as Dharman. The film features numerous character actors in key and minor parts, with extensive sequences shot across the Andaman Islands, Ooty, Kerala, and Chennai.

Retro's technical team includes composer Santhosh Narayanan, cinematographer Shreyaas Krishna, and editor Shafique Mohamed Ali. The soundtrack, with songs like "Kanimaa" and "Love Detox," has also generated buzz, aided by cameo appearances from Santhosh Narayanan and Shriya Saran.

The digital streaming rights of Retro have been acquired by Netflix, covering its Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada versions. This ensures the film's post-theatrical reach will be wide, although the streaming release date has not yet been confirmed.

Looking ahead, Saturday and Sunday will be crucial in determining the film's overall box office trajectory. If the trend from advance bookings continues and strong word-of-mouth builds over the weekend, Retro could post a solid opening frame. But given the crowded release calendar and competition from other regional films, retention of screens and weekday performance will be the next challenges for the film.

A clearer picture will emerge once updated Day 2 numbers are finalized. For now, early signs suggest that Retro is holding its ground and may see a steady run into its first weekend.
