Karthik Subbaraj's First Choice For Retro Is: Karthik Subbaraj and Suriya's maiden collaboration, a period action-thriller with a heavy romantic base titled Retro, is coming to the big screens worldwide on May 1. The movie, which has Pooja Hegde as the female lead, is ringing the right bells ahead of its grand release, and Suriya's fans are going crazy about every detail that is coming out about the movie, Retro.

After a humongous box office dud like Kanguva, Suriya and his fans have pinned high hopes on Retro. The film's trailer earned mixed reviews after it was released during the audio event. However, the songs and music by Santhosh Narayanan are winning big applause.

Not Suriya But Rajinikanth On Karthik Subbaraj's Mind

Karthik Subbaraj, elaborating on why Retro has a deep and focused love story for the protagonist, shared, " This story was not written for Thalapathy Vijay sir as speculated. I wrote this script keeping in mind Thalaivar. Initially, it was more in the action zone to suit Thalaivar's image. After narrating to Suriya sir, it was changed to a love story. Even Suriya sir asked me if I narrated the script to Rajinikanth sir."

Retro Premise

The movie is about a strong-headed protagonist, a former gangster, who tries to leave the past behind and live a peaceful life with his wife. However, his past comes haunting.

Netflix Bags Retro Movie's OTT Rights

For a stunning Rs 80 Crore, the movie Retro's digital streaming rights for all languages were secured by Netflix. Once the movie completes its active theatrical run, the Retro movie will debut on Netflix.

Karthik Subbaraj About Game Changer

Karthik Subbaraj also spoke about how Ram Charan and Shankar's 'Game Changer' story was not something that he gave to the director. The talented filmmaker said that the storyline of Game Changer has been changed from the original. The movie was one of the costliest films of Tollywood and opened to a disastrous response. This is the first time Shankar worked with a story that is from another director and marks the actor and director's 15th film.
