Retro OTT Release: Where To Stream Suriya And Pooja Hegde's Romantic Action Drama After Its Theatrical Run

Retro OTT Release: Retro, the latest Tamil romantic action drama starring Suriya and Pooja Hegde, hit theaters worldwide today, May 1, 2025. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj and produced by Stone Bench Creations in collaboration with 2D Entertainment, the film is expected to have a strong run at the box office, thanks to its wide release and star power.
While the film has just begun its theatrical journey, viewers who prefer to watch films online are already curious about its OTT availability. As confirmed ahead of release, the digital rights for Retro have been acquired by Netflix. The film will be available on the streaming platform in Tamil, along with dubbed versions in Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada-though only after its theatrical run concludes.
Retro: Key Details
Retro tells the story of Paarivelan "Paari" Kannan (played by Suriya), a former gangster trying to build a peaceful life with his wife Rukmini (Pooja Hegde). However, his past refuses to let go, dragging him back into conflict as secrets resurface and old enemies close in. The film blends romance, emotional conflict, and action in a story of love and redemption.
The project was originally announced in March 2024 under the working title Suriya 44, with the tagline "Love, Laughter, War." Its official title, Retro, was revealed later that year. Filming began in June 2024 and wrapped up by early October. Locations spanned the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Ooty, Kerala, and Chennai.
The film's technical crew includes cinematographer Shreyaas Krishna, editor Shafique Mohamed Ali, and composer Santhosh Narayanan, who also makes a cameo appearance. The supporting cast features Jayaram, Joju George, Karunakaran, Nassar, and Prakash Raj, among others.
There is currently no official announcement regarding the OTT premiere date of Retro, as the film is still in the early stages of its theatrical run. Typically, films arrive on digital platforms a few weeks after completing their time in theaters, depending on the agreement made between the filmmakers and the streaming services. Viewers interested in watching Retro online can expect it to stream on Netflix at a later date, subject to further updates from the platform.
For now, Retro is screening in cinemas, including standard and EPIQ formats, across Tamil Nadu and other regions.
