Retro Now Streaming On OTT: Retro, the Tamil-language romantic action drama starring Suriya and Pooja Hegde, is now available for streaming on Netflix. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the film premiered in theaters on May 1, 2025, and became available on the OTT platform on May 30. Subscribers can watch the film in Tamil as well as dubbed versions in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.

A Look Into Retro: Paari's Turbulent Journey Through Love, Betrayal, and Identity

Set in 1960s Thoothukudi, the story centers on Paarivel "Paari" Kannan, an orphan brought up under the wing of a local gangster. As he grows up within the criminal world, Paari's life takes a dramatic turn following a betrayal. His search for identity and reconciliation with his past leads him to the Andaman Islands, where a series of events link him to a local prophecy. Amidst shifting loyalties, cult violence, and personal reckonings, the story explores Paari's attempt to reclaim his life and reunite with his love interest, Rukmini.

Retro was produced by Stone Bench Creations and 2D Entertainment. It was originally announced in March 2024 under the tentative title Suriya 44, with the tagline "Love, Laughter, War." The official title was revealed in December 2024. The production team began filming in June 2024, completing the shoot by early October. Locations included Ooty, Kerala, Chennai, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The film features a large ensemble cast, with Suriya playing the lead role of Paari, and Pooja Hegde as Dr. Rukmini, a veterinarian and Paari's love interest. Other key cast members include Joju George, Jayaram, Nassar, Prakash Raj, Vidhu, Swasika, and Sujith Shankar.

Santhosh Narayanan has composed the music for the film, while Shreyaas Krishna handled the cinematography and Shafique Mohamed Ali took charge of the editing. The art direction was handled by Jacki and Mayapandi, while Kecha Khamphakdee choreographed the action sequences.
