Retro Trailer Out Now: Glimpse Of Suriya-Starrer Karthik Subbaraj Film Released; Watch Now

Retro Trailer: The official trailer of Retro, the upcoming Tamil romantic action film starring Suriya and directed by Karthik Subbaraj, has been unveiled following a grand audio and trailer launch event held earlier today. Backed by Stone Bench Creations and 2D Entertainment, the film is slated for a theatrical release on May 1, 2025.

Retro marks the first collaboration between Suriya and filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj. The project was initially announced in March 2024 with the working title Suriya 44, accompanied by the tagline "Love, Laughter, War." The final title, Retro, was revealed in December 2024.

The film was shot in various locations, including the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Ooty, Kerala, and Chennai, and completed production by October 2024. Cinematographer Shreyaas Krishna and editor Shafique Mohamed Ali have worked behind the camera, while the music is composed by Santhosh Narayanan, who also makes a cameo appearance in the song "Kanimaa."

Retro Cast And Crew

In the film, Suriya plays Paarivel Kannan, while Pooja Hegde portrays Rukmini Paarivel. The trailer offers a glimpse into their relationship, blending lighter romantic moments with intense action and humorous scenes. Baby Aavni plays a younger version of Rukmini. Joju George, Jayaram, Karunakaran, and Nassar feature in supporting roles, alongside a large ensemble cast.

Apart from direction, Karthik Subbaraj is also involved in writing the film. The project is produced by Jyotika and Suriya, with additional support from co-producers Rajsekar Karpoorasundarapandian and Karthikeyan Santhanam. The team also includes notable names such as stunt coordinator Kecha Khamphakdee, art directors Jacki and Mayapandi, and costume designer Praveen Raja.

With the trailer now available for public viewing, anticipation is building around how Retro will perform at the box office and how audiences will respond to its mix of romance, comedy, and action. The film will be released worldwide in standard and other formats on May 1.
