Produced by Kalaipuli S. Thanu under the V Creations banner, Sachein was initially released on April 14, 2005, and performed well at the box office. Set against a college campus backdrop, the film featured a soundtrack by Devi Sri Prasad and incorporated elements of campus life and romance that resonated with audiences at the time.

Directed by John Mahendran, Sachein starred Vijay in the lead role, with Genelia D'Souza portraying Shalini and Bipasha Basu making her Tamil film debut in a supporting character.
