Srikanth Remanded In Drug Case After Hours-Long Interrogation; Narcotics Test Returned Positive, Say Police

Srikanth Remanded In Drug Case: Tamil actor Srikanth, known for his work across Tamil and Telugu cinema, was arrested by the Greater Chennai Police on Monday in connection with a narcotics case. The arrest followed reports that his name had surfaced during the interrogation of T. Prasad, a former functionary of the AIADMK's IT wing, who is suspected of supplying banned substances.
According to a report by The Times of India, police say Prasad's questioning provided leads that pointed toward Srikanth's alleged involvement in a wider drug network. Based on these findings, Srikanth was brought to the Nungambakkam Police Station on Monday afternoon, where he was interrogated for over nine hours. During the questioning, a blood sample was collected from the actor and subsequently tested. Authorities said test results confirmed the presence of narcotics in his system.
After the preliminary procedures, Srikanth was taken to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for a routine medical examination. The Times of India reported that later that evening, he was produced before Magistrate Dhayalan of the 14th Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Egmore. The hearing took place at the magistrate's residence in the Judicial Officers' Quarters in Egmore, following standard protocol. Srikanth's legal counsel, advocate Vignesh Ramanadhan, appeared on his behalf during the proceedings.
The magistrate ordered that Srikanth be remanded to judicial custody until July 7, 2025.
This development follows earlier reports that Prasad, who had been arrested in connection with a bar altercation in Chennai, named Srikanth during police interrogation. He allegedly confessed to procuring narcotics, including cocaine, and claimed to have supplied them to the actor. Investigating officers then discreetly summoned Srikanth for further inquiry.
Authorities were examining whether the actor had purchased narcotic substances. At the time of his initial questioning, no formal charges had been filed; Monday's arrest and subsequent remand mark a significant turn in the investigation.
Actor With Over Two Decades in South Indian Cinema
Srikanth, 46, has acted in over 50 films across Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam. His notable works include Roja Kootam (2002), Parthiban Kanavu (2003), and Nanban (2012). In recent years, his appearances have been sporadic, with his most recent roles seen in the films Dinasari, Konjam Kadhal Konjam Modhal, and the Telugu project Erracheera.
