Stunt Performer S M Raju Dies: Stunt performer S M Raju lost his life on Sunday (July 13) while filming a car stunt sequence for director Pa. Ranjith's upcoming Tamil film, which stars Arya in the lead role. The fatal incident occurred during the shoot of a high-risk car-toppling scene.
Actor Vishal, who has collaborated with Raju on several projects, confirmed the news on social media. Expressing his grief, Vishal described Raju as a brave and dedicated professional who had executed numerous dangerous stunts over the years.
"It's so difficult to digest the fact that stunt artist Raju passed away while doing a car-toppling sequence for Ranjith's film this morning," Vishal wrote on X (formerly Twitter). "I've known Raju for many years. He performed so many risky stunts in my films, always fearlessly. My deepest condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace."
Vishal also stated that he would continue to support Raju's family, recognizing the stunt artist's longstanding contribution to the industry.
Stunt choreographer Silva also paid tribute on Instagram, writing: "One of our great car-jumping stunt artists, S M Raju, died today while doing car stunts. RIP. Our stunt union and Indian film industry will be missing him."
Raju's death has drawn attention to the safety challenges faced by stunt professionals in the film industry, especially in physically demanding roles. Many in the industry have expressed their condolences; Pa. Ranjith and Arya have not publicly commented so far.

Arya and Pa. Ranjith's upcoming film is reportedly a sequel to Sarpatta Parambarai. The director had earlier confirmed plans for a follow-up to the original.
