Suriya 46 Update: Suriya is gearing up for his 46th film as a lead actor, currently referred to by its working title, Suriya 46. The upcoming Tamil family drama is being produced by Sithara Entertainments and directed by Venky Atluri. Alongside Suriya, the film features Mamitha Baiju in the female lead, marking her first on-screen pairing with the actor. Raveena Tandon, Radhika Sarathkumar, and Bhavani Sre have reportedly been cast in significant roles.

The project was publicly confirmed in May 2025 following initial announcements in April, with principal photography starting reportedly in Hyderabad shortly thereafter. Production has progressed, with early schedules reportedly completed in Vijayawada and later segments shot in Tirunelveli. By mid-July, reports indicated that two filming schedules had wrapped, suggesting that the project is moving along its intended timeline.

Venky Atluri, who had earlier collaborated with Dhanush for Vaathi (2023), is directing the film. Initially, it was reported that Venky would reunite with Dhanush for his second Tamil film after Vaathi, but plans changed and Suriya was brought on board. Mamitha Baiju, who received a lot of attention for her recent Tamil film Dude (2025), is reportedly playing a significant character in the film.

G. V. Prakash Kumar on Suriya 46

Music for the film is being composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, marking his second project with Suriya after Soorarai Pottru (2020) and third with Venky Atluri. In a recent interview, G. V. Prakash described the film as a family entertainer, noting that it has a tonal similarity to Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo. Cinematography is handled by Nimish Ravi, and editing is managed by Naveen Nooli.

The production is reportedly targeting a summer 2026 release, expected between April and June, positioning the film as one of the significant Tamil releases in the early part of the year. While the plot details remain largely under wraps, the emphasis on family-oriented storytelling and the combination of experienced actors with newcomers suggest a film aiming to appeal to a broad audience.

As filming continues, industry observers are keeping a close watch on updates from the set and promotional announcements. With Suriya at the helm, Suriya 46 is expected to generate interest not only for its cast and crew but also for its potential positioning within the family drama genre in Tamil cinema.
