Thug Life Now Streaming On OTT: Here's Where To Watch Kamal Haasan And Silambarasan's Film Online

Thug Life Now on OTT: Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam's long-awaited collaboration, Thug Life, is now available for streaming. The Tamil gangster drama, which had its theatrical release on June 5, 2025, began streaming on Netflix from July 3 without any prior announcement, quietly making its digital debut across five languages-Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
Thug Life, directed by Mani Ratnam and co-written by Kamal Haasan, marks the duo's reunion nearly four decades after their critically acclaimed film Nayakan (1987). Produced by Raaj Kamal Films International and Madras Talkies, the film features an ensemble cast led by Kamal Haasan, with Silambarasan TR, Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Abhirami, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, and Nassar in key roles.
A Gangland Tale, Now Available for Streaming
Set against the backdrop of 1990s Old Delhi, the story explores the unraveling of loyalties and power within a criminal syndicate. When a fragile gangland truce breaks down, two siblings, Amaran and Chandra, are separated-one adopted by a feared mafia leader, Rangaraaya Sakthivel (played by Kamal Haasan). As years pass, a suicide and a revenge killing reignite old tensions. Betrayals and shifting allegiances culminate in a failed assassination attempt that forces Sakthivel into hiding. His eventual return sets the stage for a volatile confrontation, as long-buried truths surface and personal ties are tested.
Despite the film's high-profile cast and crew, Thug Life struggled at the box office and opened to largely negative reviews from critics. Its theatrical performance fell short of expectations, with its narrative receiving a mixed response from audiences.
The production of Thug Life began in early 2023 and continued through late 2024, with filming locations spanning Chennai, Kanchipuram, Pondicherry, New Delhi, and various parts of North India. The technical team includes noted names such as cinematographer Ravi K. Chandran, editor A. Sreekar Prasad, and music composer A. R. Rahman.
Netflix confirmed the film's streaming launch on social media with a post that read:
"Ithu Rangaraya Sakthivel-kum yamanukum nadakura poti
