International audiences began watching Thug Life in regions such as the United Kingdom and the United States, with overseas premieres scheduled for late Wednesday local time. In India, these screenings correspond to the early hours of Thursday. While formal reviews are still pending, initial audience reactions have started to appear on social media platforms, offering a glimpse into how the film is being received beyond Indian shores.

Behind Thug Life

The film, which reunites Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam nearly four decades after Nayakan (1987), has been in development since its official announcement in November 2022. At the time, it was referred to as Kamal Haasan 234, marking Kamal Haasan's 234th film as a lead actor. The title Thug Life was unveiled a year later, building anticipation among fans and the film industry alike.

Shot across multiple locations, including Chennai, Kanchipuram, Pondicherry, New Delhi, and northern India, the film's production spanned much of 2024. It brings together a strong technical crew with cinematographer Ravi K. Chandran, editor A. Sreekar Prasad, and composer A. R. Rahman contributing to the film's craft. Action choreography is handled by Anbariv, while production design comes from Sharmishta Roy.

The ensemble cast includes Trisha Krishnan, Abhirami, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Nassar, Mahesh Manjrekar, and Ali Fazal. Costume design for the film was led by Eka Lakhani, with Amritha Ram overseeing Kamal Haasan's looks, while special makeup for Kamal Haasan was created by Akihito Ikeda. Ranjith Ambady was in charge of hair and makeup for the cast.

VFX supervision was handled by H. Monesh, while Anand Krishnamoorthi led the sound design. The DI color grading was done by Ashirwad Hadkar. Chief re-recording mixer Craig Mann contributed to the final sound mix. The background score was mixed by Suresh Permal. Sound engineering took place at Panchathan Record Inn and AM Studios in Chennai, with engineers including Suresh Permal, Karthik Sekaran, Sathish V Saravan, Bharath Arjunan, Sivakumar S, Pradeep Menon, Ainul Huq, Krishnan Subramanian, Aravind MS, and S Padmasharan.
