Thug Life Trailer: The trailer of Thug Life, the much-anticipated Tamil gangster drama starring Kamal Haasan and directed by Mani Ratnam, was released today, May 17, 2025, at 5 PM. The film marks a notable reunion for Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam, coming together nearly four decades after their acclaimed 1987 collaboration Nayakan.

Production and Filming Of Thug Life

Announced in November 2022 under the working title Kamal Haasan 234, the film received its official title Thug Life in 2023. Production commenced in early 2024 and concluded later the same year. The shoot covered multiple locations across India, including Chennai, Kanchipuram, Pondicherry, New Delhi, and areas in North India.

Thug Life: Featuring a Pan-Indian Cast and a Seasoned Creative Team

The film features a diverse ensemble cast including Silambarasan TR, Trisha Krishnan, Sanya Malhotra, Abhirami, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Nassar, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Rohit Saraf, and Vaiyapuri. The inclusion of actors from different regional industries has further heightened anticipation for the film's pan-Indian appeal.

Raaj Kamal Films International, Madras Talkies, and Red Giant Movies have come together to produce Thug Life. A.R. Rahman, a frequent collaborator of both Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam, has composed the music. Cinematography is handled by Ravi K. Chandran and editing by A. Sreekar Prasad. Action choreography is by Anbariv, with production design by Sharmishta Roy. Costume design is led by Eka Lakhani and Amirtha Ram, while sound design is by Anand Krishnamoorthi and VFX supervision by H. Monesh.

Ahead of the release, an audio launch event is scheduled to take place on May 24, 2025, at Sairam College in Chennai. A live musical performance by A.R. Rahman and his team will be part of the event.

Thug Life is scheduled for a theatrical release on June 5, 2025, in multiple languages.
