Set against the backdrop of the economic crisis in Sri Lanka following the COVID-19 pandemic, Tourist Family follows the journey of Dharmadas, a Sri Lankan Tamil man, who migrates to India with his family in search of stability. The storyline reflects themes of displacement, survival, and familial bonds, featuring Sasikumar in the lead role alongside Simran, Mithun Jai Sankar, and Kamalesh.

The film was shot in a single 35-day schedule and completed by early January 2025. It was initially announced in September 2024 under the working title Production No. 5, before being officially titled Tourist Family in December. The film was backed by Million Dollar Studios and MRP Entertainment, with music composed by Sean Roldan and cinematography by Aravind Viswanathan.

Industry observer Sreedhar Pillai noted that Tourist Family continues to perform well at the Tamil Nadu box office on its fourth day. He commented that the film is showing an extraordinary hold with positive word of mouth and good collections, suggesting that audience interest has remained consistent since its release.
