Tourist Family Tamil Nadu Box Office Collection: Sasikumar-Simran Film Crosses ₹10 Crore In Opening Weekend

Tourist Family Box Office Sasikumar-Simran Film Hits 10 Cr

Tourist Family Tamil Nadu Box Office Collection: Tourist Family, the Tamil-language comedy-drama directed by debutant Abishan Jeevinth, has had a promising start at the Tamil Nadu box office. The film, which hit theaters on May 1, 2025, has reportedly grossed close to ₹10 crore during its extended opening weekend. According to Cinetrak, the film showed impressive growth on Sunday, earning nearly twice the amount it made on opening day.

Tourist Family: A Tale of Displacement and Hope

Starring M. Sasikumar and Simran as a couple navigating difficult circumstances, Tourist Family is set against the backdrop of post-pandemic Sri Lanka's economic crisis. The story follows Dharmadas (played by Sasikumar), a Sri Lankan Tamil who flees the country with his family in search of a better future in India. Simran portrays Vasanthi, his wife, while Mithun Jai Sankar and Kamalesh appear as the couple's children.

The film's ensemble cast includes Yogi Babu, M. S. Bhaskar, Ramesh Thilak, Bagavathi Perumal, and Elango Kumaravel, among others. Notably, the film marks the Tamil debut production for Million Dollar Studios, in collaboration with MRP Entertainment.

The title Tourist Family was officially unveiled in December 2024 after the project was initially announced in September that year under the working title Production No. 5. The shoot was completed in a single 35-day schedule across various locations, wrapping up in early January 2025. The film's music was composed by Sean Roldan, with cinematography by Aravind Viswanathan and editing by Barath Vikraman.

Critics have responded positively to the film's blend of humor and social context, appreciating its attempt to address the struggles of displaced communities through a family-centric narrative. Despite opening alongside a high-profile release like 'Retro,' Tourist Family managed to carve out its own space at the box office. Strong word-of-mouth and growing advance bookings for Monday suggest that the film could enjoy a sustained run in the coming weeks.

As of now, Tourist Family appears to have resonated with a segment of the audience looking for grounded, emotionally resonant storytelling-anchored by performances from a veteran cast and backed by a relevant socio-political setting.
