Tourist Family Tamil Nadu Box Office Collection: Sasikumar And Simran's Film Crosses ₹51 Crore In 18 Days

Tourist Family Tamil Nadu Box Office 51 Crore In 18 Days

Tourist Family Tamil Nadu Box Office Collection: Tourist Family, a Tamil comedy-drama led by Sasikumar and Simran, has posted strong box office numbers in Tamil Nadu, grossing over ₹51 crore in just 18 days since its theatrical release. The film, which hit theaters on May 1, 2025, has sustained its momentum even through its third weekend, despite competition from new releases.

Directed by debutant Abishan Jeevinth, Tourist Family tells the story of a Sri Lankan Tamil family fleeing the economic crisis in their homeland and seeking refuge in India. As they try to adapt to a new life in Chennai, the family must conceal their identity to avoid legal troubles and social stigma. Their journey is marked by tensions, mistrust, and eventual connection with a local community that becomes both their refuge and their test.

The film premiered on April 29 and had a wide release across Tamil Nadu on May 1, coinciding with the May Day holiday. It opened to full houses in several urban centers, with strong word-of-mouth helping it maintain occupancy into the following weeks. According to film industry tracker AB George, the film has crossed the ₹51 crore gross mark in the state as of May 18, marking a solid run for a mid-budget film with a socially grounded narrative.

Sasikumar and Simran, who portray the heads of the displaced family, have received attention for their grounded performances. In addition to the leads, the cast includes Yogi Babu, M.S. Bhaskar, Mithun Jai Sankar, Kamalesh, Ramesh Thilak, and others, all of whom contribute to the film's ensemble-driven storytelling.

Despite a limited promotional campaign prior to release, the film drew interest for its topical subject and distinctive premise. The backdrop of post-crisis migration lends a socio-political context that has struck a chord with Tamil audiences, especially those familiar with the topic.

The film's production was wrapped up swiftly in a single 35-day schedule earlier this year. It was shot in various parts of Tamil Nadu, with principal photography beginning in December 2024 and concluding in early January 2025. Production of the film was handled by Million Dollar Studios and MRP Entertainment, with Nazerath Pasilian, Magesh Raj Pasilian, and Yuvaraj Ganesan serving as producers.

Abishan Jeevinth's Debut Film on Migration and Human Bonds

Tourist Family marks Abishan Jeevinth's first directorial venture. His debut has now become one of the most talked-about releases of the season, not just for its box office performance, but also for how it handles issues of identity, displacement, and resilience.

Sean Roldan composed the film's music, with Aravind Viswanathan handling cinematography and Barath Vikraman editing the final cut. The film's sound design was done by Sound Vibe, and the DI work was handled by Mango Post. Art direction was overseen by Raj Kamal, and costume design was handled by Navadevi Rajkumar.

Take a Poll

The story, which begins in Rameswaram with the family's arrival in India, evolves into a narrative about community, suspicion, and unexpected solidarity. As the family settles into life in Chennai under false pretenses, a parallel investigation into a bomb blast in Rameswaram threatens to unearth their secret. The plot thickens when local law enforcement begins tracking their movement, culminating in a tense series of events that explore how compassion and silence from a neighborhood can defy official scrutiny.

As the film continues its run, trade analysts expect it to maintain its presence. Despite the release of two major Tamil films last weekend, Tourist Family's collections held steady, pointing to a strong connection with its audience.

Whether it will sustain into a fourth week remains to be seen, but as of now, Tourist Family has established itself as a steady performer in the Tamil Nadu box office circuit-delivering more than what many had predicted prior to its release.
