Vidya Balan In Rajinikanth's Jailer 2? New Reports Spark Buzz Around Bollywood Star's Role In Nelson's Film

Vidya Balan Likely to Join Rajinikanth's Jailer 2: The Tamil action comedy Jailer 2, starring Rajinikanth and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, has been generating considerable buzz since its announcement early this year. The film, produced by Kalanithi Maran through Sun Pictures, continues the story from the 2023 release Jailer, featuring Rajinikanth once again in the lead role as "Tiger" Muthuvel Pandian. Alongside him, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, and Mirnaa Menon are confirmed to return, while S. J. Suryah joins the cast in a key role. Additionally, veteran actors Shiva Rajkumar and Nandamuri Balakrishna are slated to make cameo appearances.
Recently, reports have surfaced suggesting that Bollywood actress Vidya Balan might be part of the sequel. While no official confirmation has been made yet, sources hint that she has been approached for a significant role.Vidya Balan, known for her versatile acting, would be a notable addition to the film's ensemble if the reports prove true. However, details about her character or the scope of her involvement remain under wraps.
Filming Continues for Jailer 2 Amid Casting Buzz
The announcement of Jailer 2 came in January 2025, following director Nelson Dilipkumar's earlier indication in 2023 that he was interested in making sequels to his successful films. Filming for the sequel kicked off in Chennai in March 2025. The technical crew features Anirudh Ravichander composing the music, Vijay Kartik Kannan handling cinematography, and R. Nirmal overseeing the editing. Notably, Anirudh's work on this film marks his fifth collaboration with Nelson and sixth with Rajinikanth.
Aside from the new casting rumors, there have also been reports of Nelson visiting the set of the Malayalam film Hridayapoorvam in early May to meet Mohanlal, possibly to discuss the actor's comeback reprising the role of Mathew. This could suggest further crossovers or guest appearances, adding to the anticipation.
The film was officially announced in January 2025, with a teaser released on YouTube and simultaneously shown in prominent theaters throughout Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and several regions in North India, coinciding with the Pongal festival. The track "Hukum Reloaded" featured in the teaser has already caught the attention of fans.
As of now, Jailer 2 remains one of the most awaited Tamil releases, with audiences eager to see whether Vidya Balan's inclusion will be confirmed and how the sequel shapes up after the success of its predecessor.
