Vijay Faces Controversy Over Iftar Event Following Complaint Alleging Offense To Religious Sentiments

Vijay Faces Controversy Over Iftar Event After Complaint

Complaint Against Vijay Over Iftar Event: Tamil actor-turned-politician Vijay has landed in controversy after a complaint was filed against him in Chennai, alleging that an Iftar event organized by his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), was offensive to the Muslim community. The complaint was lodged by the Tamil Nadu Sunnat Jamaat's state treasurer, Syed Ghous, at the Chennai Police Commissioner's office, seeking legal action against Vijay for allegedly insulting religious sentiments.

According to a News18 report, Ghous claimed that individuals with no connection to Islamic practices, including people he described as "drunkards and rowdies," attended the event, which he alleged was disrespectful to the sanctity of Iftar. He further criticized the event's management, citing inadequate arrangements that reportedly caused discomfort to attendees.

Ghous also drew parallels between the Iftar event and Vijay's first political rally in Vikravandi, where he claimed that poor planning had left many attendees without drinking water, leading to instances of dehydration. He accused Vijay of repeatedly failing to organize events properly and suggested that his participation in religious events might be politically motivated rather than driven by genuine respect for religious traditions.

Additionally, concerns were raised regarding Vijay's use of foreign security personnel at the event. The Tamil Nadu Sunnat Jamaat alleged that attendees were mistreated, claiming that crowd control measures lacked basic human dignity. The complainants demanded action to prevent such incidents in the future.

Vijay Granted Y Category Security

In a separate development, News18 reported that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has approved Y category security for Vijay, effective from March 14. The decision was made following intelligence assessments highlighting potential threats related to his political activities and growing public presence.

As per the News 18 report, under this security arrangement, an 11-member team from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will be assigned to protect Vijay. This includes a personal security officer (PSO) and armed personnel stationed at his Tamil Nadu residence. Three commandos will provide 24-hour protection at his home, while eight others will accompany him at public events, armed with 9 mm pistols and stun guns. The security team will operate on a rotational basis to ensure round-the-clock protection.

Vijay, who recently launched TVK, has been actively preparing for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections. Reports indicate that he is planning an extensive statewide roadshow later this year as part of his campaign strategy.

Meanwhile, Vijay is also focused on completing his upcoming film, Jana Nayagan, directed by H. Vinoth. This project is notable as it marks his final film before his anticipated full-time transition into politics.
