Vijay Named TVK's Chief Ministerial Candidate For 2026 Tamil Nadu Elections; Plans Statewide Outreach

Vijay Named TVK s CM Candidate For 2026 Tamil Nadu Elections

Vijay Declared TVK's CM Face For 2026: Actor-politician Vijay has been officially announced as the chief ministerial candidate of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) for the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The announcement followed a key meeting of the party's state executive committee held at its Chennai headquarters on Friday (July 4, 2025).

According to a report by NDTV, a resolution passed during the meeting confirmed Vijay's leadership position within the party, with TVK also ruling out alliances with both the BJP and the DMK. The committee emphasized that any future alliances would be considered only with parties that support Vijay's leadership.

The meeting reportedly also finalized plans for a large-scale state conference in August, followed by a statewide outreach program during which Vijay is expected to visit multiple districts between September and December. These activities are aimed at expanding TVK's grassroots presence and promoting the party's ideology through public meetings.

NDTV further reported that the TVK executive committee strongly criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah's recent comments on the English language, calling them "malicious" and a "direct attack" on Tamil Nadu's two-language policy. The party reiterated its opposition to the imposition of Hindi and Sanskrit in the state, stating that such efforts would not be accepted under any circumstances.

The committee also condemned the Election Commission of India's ongoing electoral revision, accusing it of attempting to reduce minority representation in the voter rolls and alleging that the process is designed to favor the BJP.

As reported by Twentyfour News, Vijay reaffirmed his stance against aligning with the BJP, describing them as political opponents. He accused the party of attempting to divide people on religious lines and stated that its strategies would not work in Tamil Nadu.

He also addressed local concerns, particularly the Parandur airport project. According to Twentyfour News, Vijay warned that if the grievances of local residents remain unaddressed, he would personally join them in a protest in front of the Chief Minister.

Vijay's Jana Nayagan

Vijay's final film before entering full-time politics, titled Jana Nayagan, is set to hit theatres on January 9, 2026. Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, the film stars Vijay alongside Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol and is being positioned as his cinematic farewell.

In a related development on Wednesday, Vijay visited the residence of N. Ajith Kumar, a custodial death victim, in Madappuram near Thirupuvanam. According to a report by The Hindu, he paid tribute to Ajith Kumar's portrait and spoke with the victim's brother, N. Naveen Kumar, and mother, B. Malathi.
