Who Is Rukmini Vasanth? Meet The Rising Star Making Her Tamil Debut In Vijay Sethupathi's Ace

Kannada Actress Rukmini Vasanth Gains Tamil Spotlight with Ace Debut: With the release of Ace in theaters on May 23, 2025, viewers of Tamil cinema are taking note of actress Rukmini Vasanth, who stars alongside Vijay Sethupathi in the romantic crime comedy directed by Arumuga Kumar. While her name might be new to some Tamil audiences, Rukmini has already made a mark in the Kannada film industry.
Born on December 10, 1996, in Bangalore, Rukmini comes from a family with both military and artistic legacies. Her father, Colonel Vasanth Venugopal, was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India's highest peacetime military decoration, for his service during a 2007 operation in Jammu and Kashmir. Her mother, Subhashini Vasanth, is a Bharatanatyam dancer and social worker who established a foundation for war widows in Karnataka.
Rukmini's educational journey included stints at Army School and Air Force School before she trained in acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London-one of the world's most prestigious drama schools.
Rukmini Vasanth's Journey in Films
She made her lead film debut in 2019 with Birbal Trilogy Case 1: Finding Vajramuni, directed by M. G. Srinivas. However, it was in 2023 that Rukmini gained significant attention for her performance as Priya in the two-part romantic drama Sapta Saagaradaache Ello - Side A and Side B, where she starred opposite Rakshit Shetty. Her portrayal earned her the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress - Kannada.
In addition to Sapta Saagaradaache Ello, she appeared in Baanadariyalli the same year, and she continued her momentum in 2024 with films like Bagheera and Bhairathi Ranagal, acting opposite stars Sriimurali and Shiva Rajkumar, respectively. That same year, she also ventured into Telugu cinema with Appudo Ippudo Eppudo, co-starring Nikhil Siddhartha.
With Ace, Rukmini makes a notable entry into Tamil cinema. The film follows the story of Kannan, played by Vijay Sethupathi, whose dream of starting over abroad is derailed by a botched heist. Rukmini's role in this high-stakes narrative is expected to introduce her to a broader audience beyond Kannada-speaking regions.
Looking ahead, Rukmini Vasanth has lined up roles in upcoming films Madharasi and NTR31, suggesting a deliberate expansion into more languages and markets. As her profile grows, especially following her Tamil debut, Rukmini appears to be charting a diverse and pan-Indian film career.
