Actors And Public Figures Pay Tribute To Bharathiraja: The Tamil film industry came together in Chennai on June 10 to bid farewell to veteran filmmaker and actor Bharathiraja, who passed away at the age of 84. Hours after news of his death emerged, several prominent personalities from cinema and politics visited his residence to pay their final respects and offer condolences to his family.

Among those who arrived to pay tribute were Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, veteran actor Sivakumar, actor Suriya, actor-politician Radhika Sarathkumar, lyricist Vairamuthu and Naam Tamilar Katchi chief co-ordinator Seeman. The visitors paid floral tributes and spent time with family members of the late filmmaker.

Veteran music composer Ilaiyaraaja was also seen at Bharathiraja's residence. Speaking briefly to the media, he said there was little left to express in words and prayed for the filmmaker's soul to rest in peace. The two shared a long professional association and worked together on several memorable films over the years.

Actor Sivakumar and his son Suriya were among the early visitors. Visuals from the residence showed members of the film fraternity arriving throughout the day as people gathered to pay their respects to the director, whose career spanned several decades.

Film Personalities Remember Bharathiraja On Social Media

Several actors, filmmakers and public figures also took to social media to remember Bharathiraja and reflect on his contribution to Indian cinema.

Actor and politician Khushbu Sundar shared a heartfelt message on X, saying she was devastated by the news. She described Bharathiraja as a respected filmmaker whose work had served as a benchmark for cinema and recalled an unfulfilled plan to work with him again.

Actor Simran remembered Bharathiraja as a filmmaker who left a lasting impact on storytelling in Tamil cinema. In her post, she noted that his films remained closely connected to the culture and emotions of ordinary people.

Actor Sarathkumar expressed his condolences and highlighted Bharathiraja's contributions to filmmaking over several decades. He also appealed to the Tamil Nadu government to consider honouring the director with state honours.

Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and actor Pawan Kalyan also paid tribute. In a message posted on X, he described Bharathiraja's death as a significant loss to Indian cinema and referred to his achievements, including his National Film Awards and contributions across multiple film industries.

Actor Chiranjeevi Konidela also paid tribute to Bharathiraja on X, describing him as one of Indian cinema's great storytellers. He recalled working with the filmmaker in Aradhana and said Bharathiraja's passion for cinema, simplicity and dedication to his craft had left a lasting impression on him. Chiranjeevi also extended his condolences to the director's family, friends and admirers.

Actress Gautami Tadimalla said Bharathiraja's films had defined an era in Tamil cinema, while actress Revathy shared an Instagram post remembering him as a key figure in her acting journey.

Actor Sibi Sathyaraj also paid tribute, stating that Bharathiraja's films played an important role in shaping the language of filmmaking and brought stories rooted in rural Tamil Nadu to the screen.

Director Lakshmi R. Iyer joined the tributes, thanking Bharathiraja for the stories, characters and films he created during his career.

Bharathiraja, who began his directorial journey with 16 Vayathinile in 1977, directed several acclaimed films and remained active in cinema as both a filmmaker and actor. Following news of his death, tributes and condolence messages continued to be shared by members of the film industry and public figures across India.
