Is Thalaivar 173 An Adaptation Of THIS Hollywood Film? Rajinikanth's Project Sparks Online Speculation
Thalaivar 173 Buzz: A fresh wave of discussion has emerged on social media around Thalaivar 173, with netizens speculating whether Rajinikanth's next film could be inspired by a well-known Hollywood title. The conversation picked up momentum following the release of the film's official announcement poster earlier today.

The speculation comes on the same day that the makers confirmed filmmaker Cibi Chakaravarthi as the director of Rajinikanth's 173rd film. Produced by Kamal Haasan under the Raaj Kamal Films International banner, the project has been under close industry watch ever since Haasan publicly announced the collaboration.
Cibi Chakaravarthi, who made his directorial debut with Don in 2022, is stepping into his second feature film with Thalaivar 173. Industry sources have previously indicated that Cibi had narrated a story to Rajinikanth a few years ago, which did not move forward at the time. It remains unclear whether the current project is based on that narration or an entirely new script, as the makers have not shared any story details so far.
Announcement Poster Triggers Adaptation Rumors
The poster, shared by the makers to formally announce the project, features a range of objects, including a needle with red thread, ornate scissors, buttons, pieces of fabric, a few passports, along with a gun and bullets. While the makers have not provided any explanation regarding the symbolism behind these visuals, the combination has prompted sections of social media users to draw parallels with the Hollywood crime thriller 'The Outfit,' centered around a tailor and the criminal underworld. At this point, however, there has been no official confirmation suggesting that Thalaivar 173 is an adaptation or remake of any existing film.
The online theory linking Thalaivar 173 to 'The Outfit' appears to stem largely from visual interpretation rather than any confirmed information. The Hollywood film, released in 2022, revolved around a tailor whose quiet workspace becomes the setting for a tense crime drama involving gangsters, manipulation, and hidden motives. The tailoring tools seen in the Thalaivar 173 poster are the reason for speculation.
Adding to the intrigue is the tagline revealed in the announcement poster: "Every Family Has A Hero." While the line suggests a family-centric emotional layer, it does little to clarify the film's genre or narrative direction. The film will feature music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, marking another collaboration between the composer and Rajinikanth, with R. Mahendran also joining Kamal Haasan as one of the producers.
Thalaivar 173 is particularly notable for reuniting Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan after a gap of 46 years. The project is slated for a theatrical release during Pongal 2027, with further updates on casting, shooting schedules, and story details expected as the film moves into active production. Until then, the adaptation rumors remain speculative, with audiences awaiting official clarification from the makers.
