According to a report by India Today, the order was passed on Friday by Justice P.T. Asha after hearing arguments from both sides. The ruling instructs the Central Board of Film Certification to grant certification to the Vijay-starrer, bringing closure to the dispute that had delayed its release plans.

Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, Jana Nayagan features Vijay in the lead role. The film had been slated for a wide theatrical release today, January 9, but those plans were put on hold after certification was withheld following objections raised by a dissenting member of the censor board. The matter was subsequently taken to court, prompting an urgent hearing given the scale of the release.

As reported by India Today, Justice Asha, while delivering the verdict, made strong observations about the nature of the complaint. The court noted that the objections appeared to be an afterthought and cautioned that entertaining such complaints could set an unhealthy precedent. The judge emphasized the need for consistency and accountability within the certification process, particularly when a majority of the examining committee had already recommended a certificate for the film.

After Court Clearance, Focus Shifts to Release Plans

The court's order effectively restores the original recommendation of the examining committee, which had cleared the film with a U/A 16+ rating. With this legal clarity now in place, the ball is back in the producers' court. While the makers have not yet announced a revised release date, industry discussions suggest the film could either arrive in cinemas in the coming days or around January 14.

Jana Nayagan has attracted significant attention not only because of its political action thriller setting but also due to its position as Vijay's final film before his full-time entry into politics. The project also marks KVN Productions' first Tamil venture, adding further stakes to its release.

With the immediate certification hurdle addressed, exhibitors and distributors are expected to move quickly once the producers confirm the new release date.
