Jana Nayagan Release Date: Tamil star Vijay's much-delayed film Jana Nayagan may finally be heading to theatres next month. After months of uncertainty surrounding its release, fresh reports suggest that the political action drama is now likely to arrive in cinemas worldwide on May 8, 2026.

According to a report by Times of India, citing Pinkvilla, the makers are planning to release the film on May 8 and an official announcement is expected soon. While the production house has not yet confirmed the date, the latest update has brought renewed attention to the project, which has faced multiple delays since the beginning of the year.

Produced by KVN Productions and directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan was initially scheduled for a Pongal 2026 release, with January 9 initially planned as its theatrical release date. However, certification issues involving the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) delayed the release, despite strong pre-release business and reports of significant advance bookings.

The film's certification process became a major talking point after the producers approached the Madras High Court over the delay in receiving clearance. Reports indicated that while an examining committee had recommended a U/A certificate, the film was later referred to a revising committee, leading to further postponement. The legal back-and-forth and certification hurdles pushed the release indefinitely.

Adding to the challenges, the film also faced a piracy issue earlier this month when portions of the movie reportedly surfaced online, followed by claims that the full film had been leaked on piracy platforms.
