Jana Nayagan: Vijay Film Gets UK Censor Clearance; Madras High Court To Decide Today On CBFC Delay

Jana Nayagan Awaits CBFC Certificate: The release of Jana Nayagan, starring Vijay, faces uncertainty as the Madras High Court is scheduled to take a decision today, January 7, on the delay in the issuance of the censor certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification. The development comes just two days ahead of the film's planned theatrical release on January 9.

Jana Nayagan Gets UK Censor Nod CBFC Delay In Court

The day is being closely watched within the film industry, as the court's afternoon hearing is expected to determine whether the certification issue will be resolved in time for the film's scheduled release.

Jana Nayagan Gets UK Certification

While the Indian censor clearance remains pending, the film has received approval overseas. As reported by Times Now, Jana Nayagan has been certified by the British Board of Film Classification with a '15' rating. According to the BBFC, the classification indicates that the film is suitable only for viewers aged 15 and above, citing strong language, frequent violence, sexual references, and depictions of drug misuse as reasons for the rating. This clearance allows the makers to proceed with the film's release in the UK market.

CBFC Delay Under Madras High Court Scrutiny

The legal proceedings in Chennai stem from the producers approaching the Madras High Court after the CBFC did not issue a censor certificate despite the film being submitted over a month ago. During earlier hearings, the producers argued that the delay was unwarranted and could affect the film's release plans. The CBFC, represented by Additional Solicitor General Sundaresan, questioned the urgency, pointing out that the release date was announced before the certification process was completed.

According to a report by NDTV, the CBFC informed the court that Jana Nayagan would undergo a fresh review by a newly appointed committee. The court subsequently directed the board to submit relevant documents related to the re-examination process and adjourned the matter to today, with the hearing scheduled for 2:15 pm. The outcome is expected to be decisive, as certification of the Tamil version is mandatory before dubbed versions in other languages can be cleared.

Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, Jana Nayagan is positioned as a political action thriller and is intended to be Vijay's final film before his planned full-time entry into politics. The film features an ensemble cast including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, and Priyamani.

As the clock ticks toward the January 9 release date, today's decision by the Madras High Court is expected to determine whether Jana Nayagan proceeds as scheduled in India or faces further delays despite securing overseas certification.
