Jana Nayagan Overseas Censor Board Review: Early Feedback On Vijay Film Surfaces Online Before Release
Jana Nayagan Overseas Censor Board Review: As Jana Nayagan approaches its scheduled theatrical release on January 9, early reactions from overseas quarters have begun circulating on social media, adding to the conversation around the film even before its release.

Jana Nayagan is a Tamil political action thriller directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions. The film is widely described as Vijay's final on-screen appearance before his planned full-time entry into politics. With music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan, and editing by Pradeep E. Ragav, the film is positioned as a large-scale commercial release timed for the Pongal festival.
The latest discussion has been triggered by an Instagram story shared by Umair Sandhu, who claims to be a member of an overseas censor board. In his post, Umair Sandhu described the film as a festival-oriented commercial entertainer and shared strong opinions on various aspects of the movie, including performances, action sequences, and the film's second half. He also mentioned what he described as an effective face-off between Vijay and Bobby Deol, while assigning a numerical rating to the film. It is important to note that these remarks reflect his personal claims and impressions.
Meanwhile, the film has already cleared one formal regulatory step overseas. As reported by Times Now, Jana Nayagan has received certification from the British Board of Film Classification, which has awarded the film a '15' rating. According to the BBFC, the classification indicates that the film is suitable for viewers aged 15 and above, citing elements such as strong language, frequent violence, sexual references, and depictions of drug misuse. This clearance enables the film's release in the UK market.
CBFC Clearance Awaited In India
However, in India the situation remains unresolved. The film is still awaiting certification from the Central Board of Film Certification. The delay has led the makers to approach the Madras High Court, which is scheduled to take up the matter today, January 7. The court's decision is expected to play a key role in determining whether the film can proceed with its planned January 9 release.
Jana Nayagan features an ensemble cast including Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Narain, and others. As anticipation builds ahead of the Pongal window, the industry is closely watching the legal developments surrounding certification in India.
