Kamal Haasan Says Vijay's TVK Should Be Invited To Form Government, Cites People's Mandate
Kamal Haasan Tamil Nadu Government Formation: Actor-politician Kamal Haasan has called for Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay to be invited to form the government following the Tamil Nadu Assembly election results. In a statement shared on X on May 7, Kamal Haasan said the verdict delivered by the people had not given any single party the authority to form a government independently, describing the outcome as unprecedented in the state's political history.

Referring to the post-election developments, Kamal Haasan said those holding constitutional responsibility must fulfil their duty in accordance with democratic principles. He stated that his remarks were not being made from the perspective of party politics, but as "the principled voice of an Indian citizen."

In his post, Kamal Haasan also referred to M. K. Stalin and said he respected Stalin's political maturity after the DMK leader reportedly stated that his party would respect the people's verdict and function as a responsible opposition.
Kamal Haasan further pointed out that TVK, led by Vijay, had secured 108 seats in the Assembly elections. According to him, not inviting Vijay to form the government would amount to disregarding the mandate delivered by the people of Tamil Nadu. He also raised concern over the delay in elected representatives taking oath, stating that 233 elected members were still unable to assume office.
Calling the situation "an embarrassment to the state" and harmful to democracy, Kamal Haasan argued that constitutional authorities should act in line with established democratic practices. He cited the Supreme Court's ruling in the S.R. Bommai case, noting that the question of majority should be tested on the floor of the Assembly rather than at Raj Bhavan.
The actor-politician stressed that the people's verdict deserved respect and reiterated that his statement was rooted in constitutional principles rather than political alignment.
Kamal Haasan's comments come amid continuing discussions over government formation in Tamil Nadu following a fractured electoral verdict. Earlier in the day, Vijay met Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at Lok Bhavan as political developments around the formation of the next government continued to unfold.
