Karuppu Box Office Day 8: Suriya's Film Sees Slight Dip But Achieves Major Milestone Ahead Of 2nd Weekend

Karuppu Box Office Collection Day 8: Suriya's fantasy action entertainer Karuppu turned out to be one of the biggest Tamil blockbusters of 2026 during its first week in theatres. Directed by RJ Balaji, the film featured Suriya in the lead role alongside Trisha Krishnan, RJ Balaji, Indrans, Yogi Babu and Sshivada. The movie carried strong pre-release buzz because of its mass action visuals, mythological backdrop and Suriya's comeback factor after a series of mixed box office results.

Karuppu Box Office Collection Day 8

Released on May 15, Karuppu opened to packed theatres across Tamil Nadu and received a strong response from fans. While the opening day numbers were slightly lower than Suriya's previous big films, positive word of mouth helped the collections grow rapidly over the weekend. Trade analysts reported that the film crossed ₹100 crore net in India within its first week, making it the actor's highest-grossing film in the domestic market.

Audiences praised Suriya's energetic performance, the commercial storytelling and the film's emotional moments. Social media reactions also played a major role in boosting the movie's popularity. By the end of its first week, Karuppu had emerged as a major theatrical success and a strong comeback film for Suriya. Interestingly, Karuppu witnessed a good start during the second week

Karuppu First Film In 9 Months To Cross 100cr

Interestingly, Karuppu has managed to enter the coveted Rs 100cr club for the Tamil version in 8 days as it has earned Rs 102.9cr so far. This makes it the first Tamil release in nearly nine months to enter the Rs 100 crore club domestically, ending a long dry spell for the industry in 2026. In 2025, Rajinikanth-led Coolie had comfortably crossed the mark, earning an estimated Rs 285 crore net in India and more than Rs 518 crore worldwide after its Independence Day weekend launch.

Other major Tamil films last year, including Good Bad Ugly with Ajith Kumar and Dragon featuring Pradeep Ranganathan, also reached the Rs 100 crore range. However, audiences had not embraced any 2026 releases on the same scale before Karuppu, which has now become the first such high-grossing Tamil film this year.

Meanwhile, talking about Karuppu, director RJ Balaji stated, "I don't want to overpromise and underdeliver. It is a very entertaining, mass masala film with Suriya sir we always love. Ayan, Singam... all the films that we have seen of him... so that is the Suriya sir I wanted to show in this film. The film is made for people of Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra... It is not made for people on social media. It is made for those who celebrate cinema in the darkness of cinema halls, not for those who do postmortems on social media. Not for them. This is for all of us to celebrate".
