Karuppu Morning Occupancy Day 1: Suriya is here with the first release of 2024, and anticipation is intense. The film, titled Karuppu, is an action drama directed by RJ Balaji and it has finally hit the screens today after the unexpected cancellations of shows on May 14. To note, Suriya appears in a double role in Karuppu which also happens to be his 45th film as a lead actor. Adding to the buzz, Karuppu reunited Suriya and Trisha Krishnan on screen after over 20 years years. Their pairing has a strong fan following, and this collaboration is drawing attention from audiences across India, especially Tamil cinema followers. They previously worked together in Mounam Pesiyadhe in 2002, the political thriller Aayutha Ezhuthu in 2004, and the action film Aaru in 2005, all of which remain popular.

According to a report published in Sacnilk, Karuppu recorded an occupancy of 24.54% during morning shows today (day 1/ first Friday) for the Tamil version. To note, Karuppu, which has been facing comparisons with Kanguva, has failed to beat the latter in terms of footfalls. For the uninitiated, Kanguva had recorded a footfall of 20.08% for the Tamil version

Karuppu Box Office Collection Day 1 (Morning Trend)

With a footfall of 24.54% during morning shows, Karuppu saw a slow start at the box office and failed to touch Rs 2cr. In fact, Karuppu earned Rs 1.27cr for the Tamil version until 1 pm while the numbers were Rs 26 lakhs for the Telugu version. This took the overall collection to Rs 1.53cr from morning shows until 1pm

Meanwhile, talking about Karuppu, director RJ Balaji stated, "I don't want to overpromise and underdeliver. It is a very entertaining, mass masala film with Suriya sir we always love. Ayan, Singam... all the films that we have seen of him... so that is the Suriya sir I wanted to show in this film. The film is made for people of Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra... It is not made for people on social media. It is made for those who celebrate cinema in the darkness of cinema halls, not for those who do postmortems on social media. Not for them. This is for all of us to celebrate".
