Karuppu Today Release Update: Suriya's film Karuppu faces a surprise setback as the worldwide release planned for May 14 gets delayed. Paid premieres and early morning shows were reportedly cancelled at the last moment, causing confusion among cinema owners and fans. Theatre sources claimed the Karuppu screenings were halted due to financial issues linked to the release. The action drama Karuppu marks Suriya's first theatrical release of the year and is directed by RJ Balaji. The film reunites Suriya and Trisha Krishnan on screen after more than twenty years.

To note, Indrans, Natty Subramaniam, Swasika, Sshivada, Supreeth Reddy and Yogi Babu are also part of the ensemble cast in important roles. Before the last-minute disruption, Karuppu had built strong hype and heavy advance sales. Trade reports stated that Suriya appears in a double role in the film, which raised expectations further. Advance booking in India was said to touch Rs 6.41 crore, with worldwide presales crossing Rs 8 crore, showing strong interest despite the release delay. To note, after the morning shows, noon shows also witnessed a massive impact as the shows were cancelled due to KDM (Key Delivery Message) issues. For the uninitiated, In the Tamil film industry, cinemas can screen a movie only after receiving the KDM (Key Delivery Message).

Suriya Steps In To Clear The Financial Dues

While around Rs 10cr remains unsettled regarding Karuppu release, as per a tweet shared by Sathish Kumar M, Suriya has stepped in to clear the financial crisis in order to assure that Karuppu hits the screens today.

To note, there are reports about Karuppu finally hitting the screens by evening. Yes! The makers are eyeing the release during 6pm shows. Well, if the reports turned out to be true, it will certainly have a massive impact on Karuppu opening day collection with the movie getting just evening and night shows on the first day.

Meanwhile, during the promotions, Suriya spoke about working with RJ Balaji and stated, "I always call RJ Balaji 'director'. I have a lot of respect for his journey. I always believe that I can only be one person in this lifetime, dedicated to mastering one passion. But he is multi-talented-an RJ, a commentator, an actor, a writer, and a director.
