Karuppu Worldwide Box Office Day 1: Suriya’s Film Mints Half Of Retro’s Overseas Collection On Opening Day

Karuppu Worldwide Box Office Collection Day 1: Suriya's action drama Karuppu finally reached cinemas on Friday after cancelled shows on 14 May caused confusion. The delay was linked to reported financial issues and led to fans expressing disappointment. Despite the late start, early trade updates indicated a decent opening at the worldwide box office for the film. To note, Karuppu marks Suriya's first release of 2024 and arrives with high expectations from Tamil cinema followers. Suriya appeared in a double role in this film, which is also the 45th film as a lead actor for Suriya. One key attraction in Karuppu is the return of Suriya and Trisha Krishnan as co-stars after over 20 years. Earlier, Suriya and Trisha Krishnan worked together in Mounam Pesiyadhe, Aayutha Ezhuthu and Aaru, which still enjoy wide popularity.

To note, Karuppu is produced by Dream Warrior Pictures, a banner known for backing several Tamil projects. RJ Balaji directed the film and also appeared in the cast along with Indrans, Natty Subramaniam, Swasika, Sshivada, Supreeth Reddy and Yogi Babu. Posters and trailers of Karuppu highlight an intense action drama, with dark visuals and heavy conflict. This tone has increased curiosity among viewers and strengthened early buzz. Combined with the Suriya-Trisha Krishnan reunion, the ensemble cast and the publicity over the release delay, expectations around Karuppu remain high as the theatrical run began on a good note.

Karuppu Fails To Beat Retro In Overseas On Day 1

While Karuppu has been facing comparisons with Suriya's Retro, the movie has failed to beat the latter. In fact, Karuppu minted less than half of Retro's overseas collection on its day of release. For the uninitiated, Retro had minted Rs 9.5cr on day in overseas with a worldwide collection of Rs 31.81cr

During the promotions, Suriya spoke about working with RJ Balaji and stated, "I always call RJ Balaji 'director'. I have a lot of respect for his journey. I always believe that I can only be one person in this lifetime, dedicated to mastering one passion. But he is multi-talented-an RJ, a commentator, an actor, a writer, and a director. But he is also an amazing friend, father and team leader. I really liked spending time with him".
