Mankatha Re-release Advance Booking: Ajith Kumar Film Sees Rapid Ticket Sales Ahead Of Theatrical Return

Mankatha Re-release Pre-Sales: Advance bookings for the re-release of Mankatha have opened across several theatres, with early trends indicating swift ticket sales in multiple centres. The Ajith Kumar-starrer is scheduled to return to cinemas on January 23, and the response so far suggests strong initial interest from audiences revisiting the 2011 Tamil action thriller.

Ajith Kumar s Mankatha Re-release Advance Booking Update

Originally released on August 31, 2011, Mankatha was written and directed by Venkat Prabhu and produced under the Cloud Nine Movies banner by Dayanidhi Azhagiri. The film featured an ensemble cast led by Ajith Kumar, with prominent roles played by Arjun Sarja, Trisha Krishnan, Lakshmi Rai, Anjali, Andrea Jeremiah, Ashwin Kakumanu, Vaibhav Reddy, Premji Amaren, Mahat Raghavendra, Jayaprakash, Aravind Akash, and Subbu Panchu. The film marked Ajith Kumar's 50th outing as a lead actor and was among the final projects produced by the studio.

The re-release announcement gathered further attention on January 19 after distributor Sun Pictures shared a countdown poster on social media, confirming the film's return to theatres in four days. The re-release trailer, which was released on January 15, 2026, had earlier set the stage for the renewed theatrical outing.

According to theatre-level updates, advance bookings have already commenced in many locations, with several shows reportedly selling out shortly after opening. This has led exhibitors to add extra screenings to meet demand. Rakesh Gowthaman, proprietor of Vettri Theatres in Chrompet, shared an update on X stating that all three shows on the first day at his venue were sold out, advising moviegoers to plan weekend bookings early. He also recalled the film's original run, noting extended audience engagement during its initial theatrical release.

Plot Overview, Technical Credits And Re-release Context

Mankatha revolves around Vinayak Mahadevan, a suspended police officer who becomes entangled in a high-value betting money heist linked to the criminal underworld. Set largely in Mumbai, the narrative follows shifting alliances between law enforcement officials, criminals, and intermediaries, with the plot driven by deception, double-crossing, and competing personal interests.

The technical crew included cinematographer Sakthi Saravanan and editors Praveen K. L. along with N. B. Srikanth. The film's music was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Upon its original release, Mankatha recorded one of the biggest openings for a Tamil film at the time.

With the re-release now days away, some theatres have reportedly begun increasing show counts in response to booking trends, as audiences prepare for the film's return to the big screen nearly 15 years after its first theatrical run.
