Mankatha Re-release Tamil Nadu Box Office Collection Day 3: Ajith Kumar's Film Sees Strong Weekend Hold
Mankatha Re-release Tamil Nadu Box Office Collection: The re-release of Mankatha, starring Ajith Kumar in the lead role, has recorded encouraging numbers at the Tamil Nadu box office during its opening weekend. The cult Tamil action thriller, which originally released in 2011, returned to theatres on January 23, 2026, and has now completed three days in cinemas. January 26 marks the film's fourth day since its re-release.

According to figures shared by box office tracking handle Cinetrak on social media platform X, Mankatha has maintained steady collections across its first weekend in Tamil Nadu. Tracked cinemas reported earnings of approximately ₹3.08 crore on Friday, followed by ₹2.23 crore on Saturday. Sunday witnessed a slight jump, with collections standing at around ₹2.38 crore, reflecting a 7 per cent increase compared to Saturday. The three-day tracked total from these centres stands at ₹7.69 crore.
Trade estimates suggest that the actual Tamil Nadu collections could be higher, with overall figures believed to have crossed ₹9.25 crore over the first three days. These numbers indicate sustained audience interest, particularly from fans revisiting the film in theatres more than a decade after its original release.
Film Background, Cast and Re-release Performance
Originally released on August 31, 2011, Mankatha was written and directed by Venkat Prabhu and produced by Cloud Nine Movies. The film marked Ajith Kumar's 50th outing as a lead actor and featured him in a negative-shaded role that stood apart from his earlier screen personas. Set largely in Mumbai, the story follows Vinayak Mahadevan, a suspended and corrupt police officer who becomes involved in a high-stakes illegal betting operation linked to IPL gambling money. As multiple players enter the game, shifting alliances, betrayals, and double-crosses drive the narrative forward.
The film featured an ensemble cast including Arjun Sarja, Trisha Krishnan, Lakshmi Rai, Anjali, Andrea Jeremiah, Ashwin Kakumanu, Vaibhav Reddy, Premji Amaren, Mahat Raghavendra, and others. Music was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, with cinematography by Sakthi Saravanan and editing handled by Praveen K. L. along with N. B. Srikanth. Sun Pictures handled the original theatrical distribution.
At the time of its initial release, Mankatha opened to strong numbers and went on to become one of the biggest Tamil hits of that period. Its re-release performance suggests that the film continues to enjoy recall value, especially among audiences familiar with its characters and plot twists.
As the film enters the weekday phase of its re-release run, trade observers will be watching how collections hold in the coming days. For now, Mankatha has delivered a stable start in Tamil Nadu, underlining the enduring appeal of older titles returning to the big screen.
