Mr. X Early Review: Arya, Gautham Karthik, Manju Warrier’s Spy Thriller Gets Buzz For Twists, Fast Pace
Mr. X Early Review: The Tamil film Mr. X, starring Arya and Gautham Ram Karthik, is set to arrive in theatres on April 17, 2026. Directed by Manu Anand, the spy action thriller has begun generating discussion online following early reactions shared by film industry trackers after a preview screening.

Trade analyst Ramesh Bala took to X (formerly Twitter) to describe the film as a "fantastic spy action thriller," awarding it a rating of 4 out of 5. He noted that the narrative remains "very racy" and highlighted the presence of "unpredictable twists and turns," along with what he called "fabulous" action sequences. He added that Arya is "perfect" as the spy leading the mission, particularly in the action-heavy portions.
Ramesh Bala also referred to Gautham Ram Karthik as the "surprise package," stating that the role gives him scope to perform. Manju Warrier, he noted, is "at her best" and features in notable action moments, while R. Sarathkumar plays a very important character. He further mentioned that actors including Anagha, Raiza Wilson, and Athulya Ravi have performed their respective parts effectively.
He also credited Dhibu Ninan Thomas for the background score, noting that it elevates the film, especially during the last 40 minutes. Commenting on the direction, he said Manu Anand delivers a "twisty screenplay" and keeps the film "racy and action-packed."
Another industry tracker, Sugumar Srinivasan, rated the film 3.5 out of 5 in his post on X, describing Mr. X as a spy action thriller with "lots of twists and turns till the end." Listing key highlights without spoilers, he pointed to the stunt sequences, sharp editing, and a fast-paced screenplay. He also noted that all characters in the film are given importance.
Sugumar Srinivasan further mentioned the music by Dhibu Ninan Thomas, particularly the first song. In his verdict, he said the film is aimed at fans of spy thrillers and added that it "will surprise many."

Mr. X centres on a high-stakes situation involving a nuclear device that resurfaces in enemy hands and a captured Indian spy marked for execution. The story follows a rogue agent who defies orders and begins to uncover a larger conspiracy that could trigger a global crisis. Drawing from elements such as espionage, honey trapping, and nuclear threats, the film unfolds as a race against time.
